Not much of note to report—I need to start taking notes during the week so I don’t wind up at 6 p.m. on a Sunday trying to remember what I read and thought about during the week.
What I’ve been reading
I’m continuing to read Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which is great, though I’m devastated to learn that the most annoying phrase from the 2020 Dracula miniseries—“bloofer lady”, which Lucy repeats like twenty times—is canonical.
Technical details
My site is a collection of markdown files that I write in neovim and convert into HTML using the static site generator Hugo. I don’t use a theme—just a short CSS file to fix the default margins and font sizes—and there isn’t a single line of JavaScript involved. I try to stick to simple solutions wherever possible, and I feel any setup more complicated than this would be overkill for a personal website. I hope one day we wake up from the nightmare of bloated web design and social media designed to sell ads and return to simple text-based personal websites and networks of self-hosted blogs. It won’t happen, of course, but I can hope. ❦
